Born on September 26, 1981. Serena Jameka Williams.

Serena is 1 of 4 children of Richard and Oracene Williams. When they were all very young, their parents took them to the poor and even sometimes violent LA suburbs of Compton.

Who knew what the future would bring for her.

Serena began playing the game of tennis at a young age, for fun. Soon enough her father wanted her and her older sister Venus Williams to excel at the sport. Her father, Richard Williams began coaching the two of them. They began playing against one another and training hard.At the age of 4 and a half Serena won her first tournament. She played 49 tournaments before the age of 10 winning 46 out of the 49. Throughout her childhood, Serena`s name was at the top of the amateur ranks list, and by the time she reached the age of 14 she had turned pro, but because of her age she had to play in non-WTA tournaments. Her first professional tournament was the Bell Challenge in Quebec. Unfortunately, she was outsted within an hour.

Today, you may know Serena as the number ONE ranked player in women`s tennis. When she walks onto the court, with her intimidating amount of confidence, you can tell she is ready to win. Serena is at the top of the charts!

She has won a total of 12 Grand Slam titles, and many other tournaments. Serena works very hard to win all of these tournaments. With training on the tennis court, to working out in the gym. A tennis player needs to stay fit, and stay positive, no matter what state they are in.

Serena Williams is not only great in singles, but with the help of her sister Venus they have had great success in doubles as well.

Serena has had many great experiences in her life and even more to come!
